Lake Malawi Safari '05'

This close up is a very large species of Petrotilapia (8-10 inches!). It has very brilliant yellow colored (males), unfortunately the females are drab in color. This fish cannot close its mouth  with all those rasping teeth, used for scrapping the rocks.Pam Chin's fish room paddle

Pam Chin got here wish,,,something to take home from Malawi!

Petrotilapia sp are very large at this reef

Moving farther south, after a long boat ride, our next dive was at Ruarwe. I rushed to get over the side as it was getting later on in the day.

I find that later in the day the fish are starting to hide and do not like big moving objects, they can be quite "skittish". However I did find another nicely colored Aulonocara stuartgranti peacock species.

Pseudotropheus perspicax "ruarwe"

Aulonocar sp. stuartgranti "ruarwe"

A new Pseudotropheus perspicax "never seen before" was found at Ruarwe. This fish has a mostly yellow coloration with some blue on its tail. A beautiful fish!

You are seeing it here for the first time.

Dimidiochromis strigatus

Typical underwater scene at Ruarwe.

This was a really enjoyable dive wish I had more time here to explore! I found Pam another souvenir, a 5 lb iron, the type you heat in an open fire.
