Lake Malawi Safari '02'

Traveling farther up the coast of Mozambique we camped over at Chinnuni. We used this as a base for a couple of days diving. It was a good dive spot  as well, we just put on our gear and went diving  from shore. First encounters were many different Mbuna over small rounded rocks, then a sandy drop of coming to another deeper boulder ridge then sand again which dropped off much more quickly.

Mylochromis are not that rare but are not found in large numbers or groups, except brooding females.

Not far from the local village we camped on the Beach. Sleeping on a 4 inch pebble base I got one of my best nights rest. Only to be awakened in the morning by Baboons crashing around in the tree canopy behind/above us.

On the Eastern side of the Lake Malawi in Mozambique the mountains rise steeply from the shore. Villages are located around small level areas in shallow protected bays.  Travel from village to village is by foot along a narrow path along the shoreline.
