Lake Malawi Safari '01'

This years Safari "check out" dive was at Nakantenga Island. This island is part of the Maleri Island group. The water here is sometimes a bit turbid depending on the wind and waves. You can see the sloping bottom here is very rocky. Since our first trip here in 1999, we had created the Canadian Rift Lake Cichlid Association.

Always a pleasure observing some of my favorite fish from the genus of Aulonocara. Another old favorite from the past was the T.microstoma, but the color form I remembered was from Otter Island, which was a deeper blue with black bars.

With so many Lake Malawi Cichlids that are colored blue, it was refreshing to see some bright yellow fish. M.barlowi can be aggressive in an aquarium, so tank mates must be appropriate. At breakfast time and we get the scope on today's hot dive spots.

Here we get the scope for the day, over breakfast
