Lake Malawi Safari '99'

Traveling across Lake Malawi to Mozambique is always interesting. Here we are camping at "Charlies Bay" which is just north of Meponda. 0630 am. and everyone is up and getting ready to go. A little farther north, on our first dive of the day, I found a co-operative Protomelas spilonotus in a small bay at Nkhungu.

Nkhungu, Mozambique is a very sandy location. The water is very clear and there are plenty of sand nest builders. Lethrinops sp. "microstoma gold" in a shallow area littered with sand nests!

Lethrinops micrstoma,and many sand nests!

Fossochromis rostratus with a large group of females following (left). At the end of the day, back at Charlies Bay, a local fisherman brings in his catch.  George Kardos with his head in the blue fish barrel, Tom Herman assisting with the fish bag. Jerry Draper is watching the events and Jae Hovius is holding the fish while Tony Bernard takes a few hand held shots.  Mozambique no-where and the fisherman has a Rice Lake Canada "T" shirt on! We tried to tell him that we live only a few hours from there. I don't think he understood.
